Reclaimed wood has risen in popularity throughout the years due to its irrefutable natural beauty and many household uses. If you are the proud owner of one of our reclaimed wood products, we are sure you are delighted with your purchase and can’t wait to show it off to your guests! However, it is essential to know how to properly care for your reclaimed wood items so that you can maximize the life and beauty of the wood!

Keep It Clean And Dry

The easiest way to keep your reclaimed wood products looking fabulous is to keep them clean. Periodic dusting and wiping down with a damp or dry soft cloth ensures no buildup accumulates, which is a big step toward protecting the wood and keeping it presentable!

Additionally, keeping reclaimed wood dry is very important, especially if it is not treated to be used outdoors. This means that exposure to water over any duration of time can adversely affect the appearance of the wood. If you have a reclaimed wood table or coffee table, ensure that you use coasters for your drinks, as condensation can easily leave permanent, discolored rings on the wood.

Periodically Re-Seal It

Most reclaimed wood products will arrive with a sealant already applied to the surface to help protect them from damage. However, sealants can wear off over time. To be safe, you can reapply sealant to the surface every year or so. If you are unsure how to do this, make sure to do some research or ask for help before attempting it because otherwise, you may permanently alter the look of your reclaimed wood.

Perform Repairs When Necessary

A small splinter or a crack in the wood may not seem like a big deal at first. However, once a splinter or crack appears, you have to assume it is going to grow. Normal wear and tear can quickly change a minor defect into a major one if not addressed early on.
